Making a Building

This is for a friend in Australia.  Making a building from ground up.  Each day, I'l publish another picture or two of a building until it is complete.  

Finished Model of the S.S. Ben Read

Now that I have finished Model Shipwright's S.S. Ben Read, here is a photo or two.  I completed her in early December but did not publish any photos due to the up-coming holidays.

First Model Using Set 8A

Having received set 8A Christmas Eve, I did not want to take apart the manger made from sets 4, 4A and 6A. so scanning some of the building patterns I have in my collection it was time to take a chance on building this model.  Stones started to run out as I neared the top and used whatever stones I could find to finish the model.  It is still quite nice and a good example of what can be made from different stones.

ABC Magazine Totem Pole

Common to the Northwest part of North America, Totem Poles are made mostly of Redwood Cedar Trees. Totem Poles serve a wide variety of uses from recounting a familiar legend to mortuary structures.  They may honor a famous person in the clan or a murderer.  Totem poles mounted in front of a persons home generally show that's families success.  It is important to know that Totem poles are never associated with "Idol Worship" of any kind.

This model took approximately eight hours to build and was a real pleasure, as are almost all the models from the ABC Magazines.  For information, the center section (large black area) was stuffed with tissue while the base was weighted before mounting on the small core board base.

Anker Blocks and Schleich's Nativity Figures

Each year I make a manger using my stone blocks and old manger pieces from years past. Recently I came across the Schleich Nativity Set at a local store for a very good price; needless to say I purchased it with the intent of setting it up with the Anker Manger at Christmas. 

A few years ago I was forced to dispose of much of my Anker Sets and have slowly been able to re-build my collection.  This manger was made from the basic set 6 and 6A plus a few odd pieces. So here for your pleasure are pictures of my completed set-up.

European Mantis Paper Model

From the czech ABC Magazine, this paper model of a European Mantis (Mantis Religiosa) took about six hours to build.  The base was filled with rice for weight.  Normally I would used stones for an aquarium but at the time, I am fresh out.  The model is quite simple and looks really pretty good when finished.
